Post Concussion Syndrome

Concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury.  Post Concussion Syndrome takes place when symptoms such as headache and dizziness last for weeks maybe even months after the injury that caused the concussion takes place.  Post Concussion Syndrome may include: noise and light sensitivity, headaches, fatigue, dizziness, irritability, insomnia, anxiety and loss of concentration and memory.  If confusion and/or amnesia take place medical attention is required.  Although not all concussions lead to post concussion syndrome there has been no link found to the severity of the injury and causing post concussion syndrome.  No single test will determine if someone has a concussion, most doctors will order an MRI to determine a concussion.  Certain risk factors may cause Post Concussion syndrome such as Age, being female and a concussion associated with a car accident, fall or assault.  In order for your doctor to provide proper treatment it is often best to keep a list of questions to ask the doctor as well as sequence of events that cause the initial concussion.

Studies are currently being conducted for the use of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and improving post concussion syndrome.  Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been shown to cut the recovery time and aid in the healing process of Post Concussion Syndrome.
